Vogošća – the first municipality in the Sarajevo Canton to introduce separate disposal of packaging waste in cooperation with Ekopak.
On March 26, 2015, at 11 a.m., a ceremonial handover of the infrastructure for the establishment of 7 eco-islands was held in front of the Vogošća Municipality building, where citizens of this Sarajevo municipality will be able to selectively dispose of packaging waste that will be handed over for recycling. The ceremonial handover was attended by the Mayor of Vogošća Municipality, representatives of Ekopak, the first authorized operator of the packaging waste management system in BiH, and the authorized collector Aida Commerce.
Under the contract, Ekopak committed to financing the purchase of bells for the establishment of seven eco-islands, co-financing the construction and equipping of the areas, and in the coming period, educational and promotional activities aimed at raising awareness among citizens about the proper disposal and recycling of packaging waste will be implemented. The eco-islands that have been set up will also have a special source of solar energy lighting, which is the first such example in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We are extremely pleased that Ekopak has seen us as a serious partner with whom it can start implementing this project for the first time in the Sarajevo Canton. And the importance of this project for preserving the environment in the local community and raising environmental awareness among our fellow citizens goes without saying. After implementing this project, we already have plans to establish a recycling yard at the New Industrial Zone location where all collected waste will be adequately disposed of, and it will also be a collection station for all those who see waste disposal as an opportunity to generate additional income,” says Mayor Edin Smajić.
Ekopak – a non-profit company, the first authorized system operator in BiH, has established cooperation with the municipalities of: Bihać, Gračanica, Orašje, Donji Vakuf, Kladanj, Ključ, Olovo, Breza, Vitez, Novi Travnik, Vogošća and Posušje, and the number of municipalities wishing to join the Green Dot System is increasing daily.
We invite all manufacturers, importers, fillers, distributors, and packers to join Ekopak and fulfill their legal obligations at the lowest sustainable costs, thereby financially participating in the development of the system that Ekopak is building according to the best experiences and practices of other PRO EUROPE member countries.
