Visitors to the Una National Park and students of the Biotechnical Faculty in Bihać will participate in the recycling of packaging waste
Based on the previously signed cooperation agreement with Ekopak, today was the ceremonial handover of sets of containers and bins in which all visitors to the Una National Park will separately dispose of their packaging waste and thus participate in the protection and promotion of this natural gem of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The bins will be placed next to the walking trails, and the JKP Komrad, with which Ekopak already has an established cooperation, will be responsible for the removal of the collected waste.
“After two years of cooperation in the field of environmental protection and improvement of the Una National Park, and the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the company “Ekopak” doo Sarajevo and the Public Enterprise “Una National Park” doo Bihać, on the basis of which today’s handover of containers for the disposal and selection of municipal waste was organized, I can state that, when it comes to the entire environmental protection sector, a new phase in the disposal of municipal waste begins. At the same time, it is also a phase of improving the environmental awareness of both visitors and residents living in the area of the youngest national park in Southeast Europe. This shows that Ekopak has recognized the special features and values of this area as well as the results that have been achieved in all segments of the business of the Una National Park in the last four years, i.e. since the beginning of the operational establishment of the Una National Park area and the organization of the Public Enterprise “Una National Park” doo Bihać, which is also the legal manager of this protected area. These containers and waste bins will be placed in settlements in the area of the Una National Park, as well as in the most attractive visitor zones of Štrbački buk – Lohovo and Martin Brod. In this way, based on partnership relations, we will raise the level of services for both visitors to the Una National Park and the local population,” said Amarildo Mulić, director of the Una National Park Public Enterprise.
On the same day, a ceremonial handover of sets of bins and containers in which students will dispose of packaging waste was held at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Bihać. At the initiative of the management of the Faculty of Biotechnology, the faculty joined Ekopak’s Green Dot System, thereby sending a message of its social responsibility and educating young people about the importance of establishing a system for recycling packaging waste in our country, said Dean Prof. Dr. Osman Perviz and thanked the non-profit company Ekopak for the infrastructure provided.
The City of Bihać, by signing an agreement with the first authorized operator of the Ekopak system and PUC Komrad, became part of the Green Dot System for recycling and utilization of packaging waste, which enables citizens to separately dispose of packaging waste at 31 locations where so-called eco islands have been set up. PUC Komrad actively collects, prepares and transports packaging waste for recycling through the Ekopak system.
“The delivery of the infrastructure for separate disposal of packaging waste was made possible by the packaging industry of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which transferred its responsibility for the recovery and recycling of packaging waste to Ekopak. We invite all economic entities that are legally obligated to transfer their packaging obligations to Ekopak, which will strengthen the platform of the Bosnian economy gathered around Ekopak, which establishes a transparent, efficient and long-term system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste at the lowest sustainable costs,” said Hasan Ahmetspahić, Assistant Director for Cooperation with the Local Community at Ekopak.
