Today, in the premises of JP Komus, the handover of bins for separate disposal of packaging waste for all kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in the Municipality of Gračanica was held.

By purchasing bins for all kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, Ekopak is expanding its existing cooperation with JP Komus and the Municipality of Gračanica, in order to enable all citizens of the Municipality, and especially the youngest, to separately dispose of packaging waste that will be transported for recycling. “Through the implementation of the project with Ekopak so far, JP Komus has covered more than 7,500 residents with packaging waste collection activities, and during the past 2 years of cooperation, approximately 65 tons of packaging waste have been collected and transported for recycling,” said Senad Memić, Director of JP Komus Gračanica.

The Municipality of Gračanica represents an example of good practice in establishing the Green Dot System, which the non-profit company Ekopak is building in our country, based on the support of the packaging industry, which has transferred its responsibility for the use and recycling of packaging waste to Ekopak. By expanding the project to educational institutions, in line with practices from PRO EUROPE member countries, the aim is to increase the awareness of younger generations about the importance of recycling and using packaging waste. After the handover of the bins, the Municipality of Gračanica announced on Thursday the presentation of the educational play “Tvrle Ekolog”, which is being implemented by Ekopak in cooperation with BNP Zenica and the Zenica Citizens’ Forum.

The Municipality of Gračanica is one of the first municipalities to sign a cooperation agreement with the non-profit company Ekopak and join the Green Dot System for recycling and utilization of packaging waste. So far, Ekopak has invested nearly 50,000 KM in the Municipality of Gračanica, setting up 7 eco-islands, co-financing the landscaping of areas and purchasing vehicles for the collection of collected packaging waste.

Our responsibility towards the environment is also expressed through the care we take with the packaging of the products we buy every day. That is why it is important to check before purchasing whether the product is marked with the  Green Dot symbol.
