The previously announced project to establish 15 eco-islands in the municipality of Ključ was realized today with the ceremonial handover of 45 containers and vehicles for collecting packaging waste.

The handover was attended by the Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Branka Đurić with her assistants, the Cantonal Minister of Construction, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Una-Sana Canton Sinha Kurbegović with her assistants, the Mayor of the Municipality of Ključ Nedžad Zukanović, the Director of the Public Utility Company “Rad” from Ključ Sanela Draganović and the Director of Ekopak Amela Hrbat.

In this way, Ključ is included in the list of municipalities in which Ekopak is establishing the Green Dot system – separate collection and recycling of packaging waste, thus strengthening the environmental protection segment, modeled after the most successful European systems.

With 15 eco-islands, the urban part of the municipality of Ključ and the primary and secondary schools will be covered.

According to the director of Ekopak, Amela Hrbat, the role of the operator of the packaging and packaging waste management system is to establish a system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste in BiH.

“Given that Ekopak works on a non-profit basis, which means that the profit made at the end of the business year is not distributed to the founders, but invested in strengthening the communal infrastructure, Ekopak has so far signed contracts with the municipalities of Bihać, Gračanica, Orašje, Donji Vakuf, Kladanj, Ključ and Olovo”, explains Hrbat, stating that the goal is to establish a sustainable system in all municipalities.

Green Dot

Our responsibility towards the environment is also expressed through the care we take with the packaging of the products we buy every day. That is why it is important to check before purchasing whether the product is marked with the  Green Dot symbol.
