Al Jazeera journalist Sanel Kajan wins Ekopak award in the journalism competition “Green Dot System in BiH”
A TV report by Al Jazeera journalist Sanel Kajan was selected as the best journalistic work in the field of informing and promoting the importance of establishing a system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste in BiH.
“BiH in the European Recycling System” is the title of the winning entry that talks about BiH’s position in the Green Dot system, into which it was introduced through Ekopak, the BiH system operator, and the need for proper disposal of packaging waste, as well as the great opportunities for the development of a new economic sector, job creation, and financial gain for the country in the field of recycling.

Companies that have a legal obligation to dispose of their packaging waste should join the Ekopak system and mark their packaging with the Green Dot, and consumers should buy products with that symbol – this is the main message of this article, because only in this way can Bosnia and Herzegovina make progress and successfully implement a system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste. Ultimately, with the development of recycling infrastructure and the harmonization of entity regulations by the authorities, BiH could also achieve significant financial gains, concluded Sanel Kajan at the end of the article.
“It is a great honor and pleasure for me if, through my journalistic engagement, not only through this, but also numerous other examples of reporting, I have contributed to the need to raise environmental awareness and improve environmental standards. I am especially pleased that Ekopak has recognized the quality and professionalism of Al Jazeera’s reporting, as a media outlet that devotes a significant portion of its space to topics related to environmental standards, environmental preservation, recycling… I am certain that our cooperation will continue, for the general benefit of the residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the region.”
Ekopak expresses its satisfaction that a journalist from Al Jazeera, whose codes and standards of information are beyond discussion, took an interest in the topic of packaging waste and that in his article he simply presented the basic features of establishing the system, as well as the high business standards of Ekopak, which is the representative of our country in Europe in the packaging waste segment.
As a prize, the author won a study trip to a European member country of PRO EUROPE, where a system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste is successfully operating.

For the journalistic story and promotion of the establishment of the Green Dot system in BiH, Ekopak awarded an additional award, a tablet, to Oslobodjenje journalist Alema Halebić Pendek.
The award competition included original works on the topic “Establishment of the Green Dot System in BiH” that were published and submitted to the Ekopak competition in the period from December 20, 2014 to March 20, 2015.
Ekopak would like to take this opportunity to invite journalists to follow the activities of establishing a system for separate collection and recycling of packaging waste, which Ekopak has been successfully implementing since 2012, transferring the best European experiences and practices, which is proof that in our country, regardless of the general situation, corruption, unfair competition and other problems, it is possible to operate transparently and according to high standards.
